The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Gorakhpur was established on 20 February, 1988 and is situated on the campus of D. D. U. Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur. The H R D Centre is committed to provide opportunities for professional and career development of teachers of higher education, necessary for quality education and research. Through UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, the University Grants Commission aims to enable the newly appointed teachers of university and degree colleges:-

• To understand the significance of education in general and higher education in particular, in the global as well as Indian context
• To understand the linkage between education and the socio-economic and cultural development, with particular reference to the Indian polity where democracy, secularism and social equity are the basic tenets.
• To acquire and improve basic skills of teaching at the college/university level to achieve goals of higher education.
• To acquaint with the latest developments in their specific subjects.
• To understand the organization and management of a college/university and to perceive the role of teachers in the total management system.
• To inculcate in them the right kind of values that would in turn encourage them to take initiatives for innovative and creative work.
• To be computer literate and internet savvy so as to enable the teachers of higher education to utilize fast growing Information and Communication Technology for teaching and research.
• To enhance their motivation, through systematic orientation, subject specific knowledge, skills, techniques & methodologies for quality research.
